Thanks much for the review. iCab is all you said it is. And the review was extremely helpful in regard to newish features. I’d gladly pay 50 bucks if that’s what the tariff was. It’s worth it—assuming reasonable documentation. (I’m a dinosaur in that I buy nothing without decent docs if I can help it, but it’s getting tough these days, e.g., Apple. The SE had a lovely doc set as I recall. It’s such a shame that they haven’t been able to maintain Inside Macintosh—a superb document—but it’s still very useful. The dudes and dudettes who worked on that have my full respect.)

I’ve been yearning for something “lean and mean” as I am a miser about resources in general and also always prefer the simpler to the more “ornate” technically. Also I worked for Micro$oft, way back, for three months and quit. If I hadn’t I might be writing this from my yacht. Oh well.

I’ve been trying to use this feature on my G4/450 tower under both Mac OS 9.0.4 and 9.1. Generally it has no trouble checking what software needs updating, but I can never get it to download and install anything.

I have tried it with Norton AntiVirus turned off, and always try and make sure that no other programs are running.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
